Working alongside Savills, hmad|architects Exeter provided architectural support for a planning application on a challenging brownfield site. The site is within a Conservation Area with previous consent for a large care home.
The Client wanted a scheme for high quality market sale housing. There were various technical considerations to address including; drainage, flood risk, highways and setting of a listed asset. Each of these imposed constraints on the designs.
Savills managed the complex planning negotiations and the resulting scheme was a 'courtyard' style development. The design approach was contextual to the adjacent converted mill buildings and encompassed the character of the local setting and its architecture.
hmad|architects produced a 'fly through' of the scheme to assist the Design Review Panel and Planners in their interpretation of the scheme which has been approved for planning with unanimous support from the Planning Committee.
