Our primary objective is to design and deliver buildings for the 21st Century: whether they involve reworking of existing spaces or completely new projects.
Re-using an existing building is a fundamentally sustainable starting point. Our own office is within a medieval manor house: Bowhill, Exeter.
Bringing new life into churches, schools, houses, community and charity venues is one of our core skills. We make them vibrant, modern and bring them up to the standards of today whilst also maintaining the important fabric and integrity of the building heritage. We pride ourselves in designing inspiring spaces within intriguing places.
In many circumstaces a new building is desirable or necessary. This provides the opportunity to design striking architecture to suit the setting and the client. We do not pre-judge or use patterns: our starting point is always to listen to the brief and develop a bespoke environment. This is often the most critical phase of the project and is not to be rushed.
We take our clients' wish-lists and create concepts, often with surprising results. We do not define our architecture but let it speak for itself. The emphasis is on sensory delight not words.
21st Century architecture does not ignore the past. We have designed earth sheltered houses, one of the earliest forms of building. We consider sheep's wool for insulation, solid walls to absorb heat from the sun, position windows for optimum light and passive air flow to reduce the demands on mechanical services. At the same time technology brings an added dimension - allowing large span buildings, moving water features and amazing lighting.
Sustainable design is a mixture of traditional methods and technical advances. We are continuously researching the latest information relating to 'green' materials, on-site energy production and sustainability best practice. We aim to incorporate all suitable methods into our architecture.
We feel sure you will find our holistic approach a fulfilling experience. |
